HYDAT CD-ROM

Each year, Environment Canada produces a National HYDAT CD-ROM which provides access to the National Water Data Archive. The archive contains daily, monthly, and instantaneous data for streamflow, water level, and sediment data for over 2500 active and 5500 discontinued hydrometric monitoring stations across Canada.

Using a Windows based software interface, users have the ability to retrieve, view, subset, download, and print selected data from the CD-ROM. The HYDAT software page contains tips for users, answers to frequently asked questions and information on the latest version of the software.

  • For those with a high speed Internet connection a CD-ROM image (112MB ZIP) of the HYDAT CD is available for download. Please note that this zip file may take several hours to download and extracts to a 409MB ISO file. Once you have extracted the ISO image you can create your own CD using a CD-burner and appropriate software. Additional instructions are available in the HYDAT FAQ.

  • An online Reference Index which lists all of the water stations and their operating program is available.

  • A copy of the most recent HYDAT CD-ROM User's Manual is available for download. (2.1 MB).

  • Please note that amendments to the User's Manual are documented in the HYDAT MANUAL AMENDMENTS.

The current version of HYDAT (version 2005-2.04) can be ordered from any of Environment Canada's Water Survey of Canada regional offices. For information on pricing and how to order, proceed to our Ordering Information page. The HYDAT CD contains hydrometric data up to the end of 2005 for most locations; data for stations in the Province of Quebec is current up to the end of 2001.
